Judgement Day?

All I could think of when Trump’s second act commenced in January of 2025 was “the midterms can’t get here soon enough.” I never understood how anyone would want him back in office. If the debate performance where he stated Haitians were eating dogs in Springfield, Ohio and his response to the COVID pandemic weren’t bad enough, the disgrace of January 6th should have been his death knell. The excuse was that things were tough economically, and people voted with their pocketbooks. His lies, his inability to admit any fault, and his disregard for the rule of law were ignored.

I find it ironic reading about the folks who regret voting for him now, how disappointed they are about how things have turned out, and that this isn’t what they voted for. I have no sympathy for them because they were either too naive, too uninformed, or too entrenched in his cult of personality to see what the rest of us knew. Buyer’s remorse is no excuse!

So here we are. Tariffs are not a tax on the exporting countries and are costing the average person over $2,000 a year. The Epstein files remain closed. We have a modern-day Gestapo running rampant in our cities arresting and deporting individuals who are not criminals, rapists or drug dealers without due process, not to mention murdering American citizens who happen to get in their way. We have a Department of Justice that has been weaponized to harass and sue his political enemies. He ignores Congress and does whatever the hell he wants, like the Iran War, and Congressional Republicans allow that to happen. They continue to let him have his way as gas and diesel prices have skyrocketed, making everything more expensive. And now he wants to import diesel fuel from Russia while they support Iran and asks for Zelensky’s removal while Russia continues their war with Ukraine, bombing their refineries.

Interest rates are higher, job growth is stunted, and people are struggling to survive economically.  He has alienated virtually every important ally we have in the world, isolating us and making us look like fools. And don’t get me started on The Big Beautiful Bill, a gift to the ultra-wealthy while citizens are losing their health insurance and ability to feed their families. We live in a fucked-up world that has his fingerprints all over it.

If a Democrat had orchestrated all of this, Republicans would be apoplectic and start the impeachment process. It is this hypocrisy that drives me insane.

Given all that has transpired you’d think that judgement day is coming for the Republican Party. We could be on the verge of starting to purge the poison that has infiltrated our politics, but as Election Day approaches, I find myself looking forward to it with both hopeful anticipation and dread.

The anticipation comes from my logical brain, which believes that intelligent and rational people recognize how bad things have become and will vote those who have enabled the demented orange infant out of office. Maybe then we can finally have checks and balances, holding those who have corrupted our government and Constitution accountable in the process. He was re-elected because people voted with their pocketbooks, and things are much worse now than they were when he took office. So, the election outcome should be a no-brainer, and who controls the House and Senate should change based on that premise.

When you control all three branches of government but blame everything on an administration that hasn’t in power for almost two years, use fear as a reason to keep the status quo, and the only thing you have to fall on is “give us another chance”, you don’t deserve one.

But the dread comes from the emotional side of my brain.  The emotional side says everyone knew who this guy was in 2024 and still elected him and his enablers anyway. The emotional side says anger is a good motivating factor, but people may also feel like their voice doesn’t matter and won’t vote. It also fears he will invoke martial law or pull some other crap to interfere with the elections, and that Congress and the Supreme Court will let him get away with it. What kind of shit show transpires then?

My logical side says the evidence is overwhelming and a day of reckoning is coming. The emotional side says he and his sycophants are like gum on your shoe on a hot summer day. No matter how hard you try, you can’t get rid of it.

All I can say is that if you are uninsured, aren’t happy with the economy, the status of our country on the world stage, the rule of law, or democracy in general, you need to vote! You have all the facts you need, and ignorance is no excuse. We can’t be dumb enough to allow this to continued unchecked for two more years, can we?

Only 3 more weeks to find out.

POST SCRIPT: That awful rash I recently wrote about is gone! It turned out to be eczema and was cleared after numerous treatments with ultraviolet lights. I still don’t know if the IVIG meds was the cause, and haven’t had any of those infusions since August, but will find out in November when they resume. At least I’ll know how to get rid of those ugly, itchy blotches should they reappear but will have to look for a different IVIG med if it does.
