The Silent Thief

Thief

Mute and nameless

The flare arrives

A ghost in the night

With evil intent

With stealth and malice

It silently leeches

Vitality and spirit

From the unsuspecting host

A sadistic specter

It delicately noshes

Never a glutton

Leaving room for more

Arrogant and smug

It leaves a calling card

Taunting the victim

Before slithering away

Unpredictable and unnerving

Its appetite is ravenous

Its return is ordained

To nibble once again

Leaving its target

Less whole than before

And filled with dread

At the inevitable outcome

  1. This is so good, Steve! It gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. I feel every moment of it. I can’t choose a favorite line or stanza; it is beautiful in its entirety. I hate that you are taunted by this “Silent Thief”. I adore your talent, strength and kindness!

    1. I’m sorry if it brought tears. I feel more mocked than taunted, had been annoyed at how things have progressed over the last six months, and felt the anger build. This was a good way to purge myself

      1. Never be sorry when your writing provokes tears! Mine were not just from a sense of sadness for your struggle, but anger that you have to deal with such a bully. I have to say, however, that it is really nice to see you wiring more poetry!!!!! I am glad it helped you express what you needed to, and you did so perfectly!

      1. I’m sorry to hear that Steve…the upside is your writing is stellar even when you’re angry! Sometimes I feel like venting is one of the purest forms of how we communicate especially if we’re honest with ourselves which clearly you were in that piece
